Pain Management Coaching

You may be here because the feeling has become too much. You are tired of it, and you need a change, any kind of change to make it go away.

I understand that place. I’ve been there, and I want you to know the intensity can soften, safety can return, and you can live a full life again.

My approach is more than a collection of theoretical musings; it is the method I used to replace my fear and pain with safety and ease. It is what I continue to use every day to help me feel better when I feel less than great. My approach helped me manage my cancer pain, the removal of my right lung, and chemotherapy. It is what I have used to manage my chronic pain and live my best possible days.

This is my testimony, a personal experience of applying it to my daily life, but will it be right for you? Everyone is different; our path, no matter how similar, is unique. My approach to coaching isn’t to have you mimic everything I did, but to help you change how you see and experience life.

I believe knowledge can be a therapy; it can liberate and infuse you with hope. My goal isn’t to magically wish away your pain, but to teach you what it actually is, how it works, and how you can transform the way you experience it. I want to inspire you to live your best days, even after our work together is done.

My goal is to teach you practical ways to build safety within yourself, grow more confident in your internal discernment, and quiet the noise that amplifies your discomfort throughout the day.

Who Is This For?

Pain Management coaching is a good fit if:

  • Your pain has been present for months or years.
  • Pain is no longer closely tied to a clear, healing injury.
  • Fear of movement limits you, even after an earlier problem improved.
  • Everyday touch, pressure, or sensory input feels stronger or more irritating than it used to.
  • You want more than temporary relief and are ready to learn how to work with your experience over time.

The Coaching Process

My coaching is guided by Discovering Safety Within. This is the approach I use to help you learn how to feel safer in your body, understand what your experience is asking for, and reduce the extra intensity that can make discomfort hard to live with. It is built on three pillars:

  • Building Safety: Helping you increase cues of safety in your body and daily life by shifting from “something is broken” toward “my brain is trying to protect me
  • Sharpening Discernment: Helping you distinguish useful protective information from the heightened intensity by shifting from “every signal needs the same urgent response” toward “some signals need care, and some need calming.”
  • Quieting the Noise: Helping you reduce the extra intensity that can pile on top of pain by shifting from “more pain always means more damage” toward “pain can get louder without meaning things are getting worse.”

These pillars guide the education, coaching, and hands-on care throughout our work together. The depth and focus change depending on your path. If you would like to learn more, read Discovering Safety Within.

Choose Your Path

Not everyone needs the same kind of care. Some people need short-term support, some need help with flares and stress, and others need a more structured approach for longer-lasting pain. The Three Pillars guide all of these, but the best starting point depends on what you are dealing with right now.

If you are uncertain which path fits best, start with the pain patterns article, or reach out, and we can sort it out together.

What Sessions Typically Include

Sessions may include:

  • Guided education that helps you understand your pain in a clearer, less threatening way.
  • Practical tools you can use between sessions.
  • Support for rebuilding trust in movement when fear has lingered.
  • Help recognizing flares, stress-related pain increases, or overprotective responses.
  • A pace that respects your current capacity.

What Coaching Is Not

Pain management coaching is not physical therapy, psychotherapy, or mental health counseling, and it is not a replacement for care from a licensed medical or mental health professional.

It is a complementary form of support focused on pain education, nervous system safety, and practical skill-building. Results vary from person to person, and no specific outcome can be guaranteed.

Some ongoing medical conditions and treatments can produce persistent pain with active drivers. In those situations, it is important to talk with your physician before starting care.

Ready To Begin?

If this sounds like the kind of support you need, pain management coaching may be a meaningful next step.

You are welcome to book a session or reach out if you want help deciding whether coaching, one of the care paths, or a combination is the best fit for you.

Definitely one of the best and most comprehensive massages I’ve had. Shawn shared his knowledge about pain feedback loops and his incredible life experience. This undoubtedly helps him connect to people and his craft in a really thoughtful and unique way.

Pain Management Massage
This was my first of many visits to Shawn; what a gift. I came in with a lot of pain; not only was I received at the door by a gracious gentleman, but I was showered with gifts upon my exit as well as thoroughly taken care of at the table. Shawn has out-of-the-box thinking when it comes to delivering the body from pain and healing concepts. I am very grateful to have embarked upon his spa. I'm sure you will not be disappointed.

Shawn is beyond amazing! I could barely walk when I went to see him, and with only one massage, I was able to move without excruciating discomfort.

Shawn’s attentiveness is like no other massage experience I’ve had. This is more than relaxation, his philosophy about pain and how he structures his sessions have made a huge impact for me in only two visits. I highly recommend seeing him if you have any aches and pains and really want to let go of them for good.
