Personalized Approach

Personalized Approach

Using a personalized approach, pain management massage is custom-tailored to address your unique needs.

Personalized Care

No two people are exactly the same, even identical twins differ. While we share similarities and general needs, everyone requires a personalized approach to their care.

In a pain management massage, no two sessions are identical because they are customized to how you feel.

Traditional Approach

Traditionally, a massage is performed on a comfortable table, lying disrobed under a sheet and blanket to protect your modesty. The session is then performed with you in the supine, prone (face up or face down), or side-lying position.

This allows for the greatest technical versatility and is the most comfortable way to give and receive a massage.

Athletic Approach

The traditional method is effective for most circumstances, but not all. The table is a magnificent tool, but it is not universally appropriate. For example, a hammer is great for driving nails into wood, but not for screws.

The athletic approach is a clothed massage. It may use the table, but since your modesty is protected by your clothing, you are not under the sheets.

This approach allows your muscles to be massaged in positions other than prone, supine, and side-lying. The traditional approach is a great way to experience a massage, but it does not accurately reflect how you move through life. Most people are not hurting when they are in positions designed for rest.

When using the athletic approach, you will be massaged in the body positions that trigger discomfort. The goal of pain management massage is to help retrain your brain so that it feels safe. We want your brain to feel safe in all states, not just when lying on your side, chest, or back.

Your pain management massage may be performed with you
  • Dressed in stretchy athletic apparel or,
  • In the traditional way, under the sheets in the prone, supine, or side-lying position.

Three-dimensional approach to pain relief

The personalized approach of pain management massage uses three-dimensional applications to provide pain relief.

A muscle is more than a two-dimensional plane; it is a living landscape. Every square inch of the body offers a near limitless number of sensations that want to be felt and explored.

With proper technique, variety, and order, the entire muscle can be soothed; as a result, it trains the brain to feel safe.

Robust Sensory Experience

Most massages address an area once or twice and move on. A Swedish, franchise, or relaxation massage is incapable of providing lasting pain relief, because it is a superficial sensory experience. It is a superficial sensory experience, because the brain is not provided an opportunity to identify a pattern of safety.

A pattern of safety is established when you experience pleasurable sensations that can be specifically anticipated.

You can anticipate that a full-body massage will feel good, but this general awareness alone is not enough to retrain the brain’s response to targeted pain. It must be able to predict specific sensations prior to experiencing them.

Personalized Approach

No two people are the same; we all enjoy different applications of touch. The concept of pleasure is a subjective experience that is determined by you alone.

Pain management massage requires a personalized approach because I have to assess what feels good for you. Then, create a pattern of pleasurable sensations so your brain can identify patterns of safety.
